Socially-Engaged Artist | Dancer | Performer | Workshop Facilitator
With a playful socially-engaged practice, I create multi-sensory and site-specific performative installations, participatory experiences, happenings and mindfulness workshops. Exploring the many possibilities of sculpture, set design, printmaking, collage, photography, performance and dance, video, text and poetic spoken word, sound and scents. My practice explores touch, presence, perception, improvisation, chance, spaces and mindful curiosity in the everyday. Recently, I have been interested in the psychology of making and how our current emotions and intrigues affect the process which can often be viewed as performative; particularly when creating an installation. With an aim to benefit well-being and alter peoples’ preconceived perceptions of their surroundings by offering a new playful perspective. As a performer, I see myself as a combination of an Introverted Performance Artist and Kate Bush the Organised Dancer. A lot of my work is spontaneous and happens by chance. That distinctive feeling of euphoria from an unexpected outcome is one of the things I truly cherish.
Based in Kent and London, I have a MA in Performance Design & Practice from University of the Arts London: Central Saint Martins, a BA in Fine Art from Kingston School of Art and a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design from University for the Creative Arts: Canterbury. I have been dancing from a young age in Ballet, Tap, Modern Jazz and Lyrical and more recently in Contemporary, Latin and Swing. I have produced work across Kent, London, France, Italy and Berlin on individual and collaborative projects.
